HHMI Summer Research Experience
We have initiated an online student application process for the funded HHMI summer research experience. This summer program is available to students in biology, statistics, biochemistry, biomedical engineering and the NSF funded STEM programs on the West Lafayette Purdue University campus.
Please distribute this application link to qualified undergraduate students: https://purdue.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3fojWfOK2ZbWDHK
Completed applications with official transcripts are due on or before Friday, Feb 17, 2012.
The HHMI summer research experience will be offered from May 29, 2012 to July 20, 2012. The research projects offered for 2012 have been selected to emphasize the use of quantitative and statistical tools in current life science-related research. The research projects will be hosted and mentored by Purdue University faculty from biology, biochemistry, statistics, and biomedical engineering. In addition to the placement and immersion into an undergraduate research experience, there will be weekly quantitative training sessions and lunches to help foster a community of learning. The students will receive a $3600 stipend for participating in the program.
Sincerely,

September 10, 2011 Quantitative Biology Workshop at Purdue’s Discovery Learning Research Center
HHMI funding provides a $50 stipend for teachers who participate in one of our hands-on workshops with "ready-to-use" classroom ideas and assessments. The materials will increase your students’ use of reasoning and inquiry skills, improve relevance of your course to students, and meld math with life science process.
Sept 10, 2011: Quantitative Biology Workshop at Purdue's Discovery Learning Research Center.
Apr 28, 2012: Quantitative Biology Workshop in Southern Indiana (location to be announced).
Purdue’s first cohort of HHMI "Teacher-Scientists" will conduct these workshops with modern research equipment to answer a biological research question. The workshop will provide practical experience and resources with a focus on research technologies that produce data and then interpreting what the data mean.
We are recruiting math or science teachers to sign up for an event or to receive more information by registering online here. We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to having potential participants sign up no later than August 26, 2011.
