Mission Statement

The four core goals of the HHMI funded grant Deviating from the Standard: Integrating Statistical Analysis and Experimental Design into Life Science Education are:

1. Enhance undergraduate education in quantitative biology by providing students with opportunities for authentic research experiences in experimental and quantitative analysis;

2. Promote the introduction of appropriate pedagogical and modern methods of instruction for quantitative analysis and experimental design in the undergraduate classrooms in life science by providing professional development for faculty and post-doctoral students;

3. Prepare undergraduate for 21st century careers and/or graduate education in quantitative biology by infusing experimental and quantitative design into existing biology curricula;

4. Bolster the teaching expertise and effectiveness of pre-college biology and math teachers by providing extended research experiences and training in statistical and quantitative techniques to enhance pre-college students' aspirations for college education and likelihood for success in life science or bio-related fields.
