Outreach and Transitions – Nancy Pelaez , Kari L Clase
Our program goal four is to bolster the teaching expertise and effectiveness of pre-college biology and math teachers by providing extended research experiences and training in statistical and quantitative techniques to enhance pre-college students' aspirations for college education in life science or bio-related fields. We have designed precollege and transition activities to equip "teacher-scientists" to better introduce students to statistical aspects of biology. This will have major impact on our undergraduate programs because 74% of students enrolled in Purdue University freshman biology majors' courses are from Indiana High Schools.
